Dewey's 24-Hour Readthon Wrap Up!! (April, 2015)

Ahhhhh. I know this is kinda late, but I'm still not exactly on the right sleeping schedule. The readathon killed me :( I stopped reading at 4AMish (4 hours left in the readathon), and I just kinda passed out....seriously.

So yeah! Here's my short wrap up for the 24-Hour Readathon!

Prince Charming by S. Celi

I LOVED THIS BOOK SOOOOOO MUCH. Expect a review...at some point. I finished this probably about a third of the way through the readathon, but I take a lot of breaks so ya know....

Rogue Wave (Waterfire Saga #2) by Jennifer Donnelly

I wasn't really even EXPECTING to read this book, but it was calling to me :) After I finished this book I ended up falling asleep..... Anyway, I love it. OCEAN PUNS!!! YAYYYYYYY!!!!!

Okay, so that was short, but it's only a 24-hour readathon!!! I'm so glad I ended on loving both these books, it really helped me get to them faster.

What did you guys read?? Or did you participate at all...?

Thanks for reading!! Sorry about all the sleep deprived posts before.

P.S: I have to start a book that's required reading tomorrow and I don't wanna!!!! (See my post on required reading here.)

Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon Update #3 (And the death of my face...) (April, 2015)

I THOUGHT ONE AM WAS BAD. It's nothing compared to the torture of 4am. There's still 3 or 4 hours (idk, I stopped counting....) left and I'm just....arghhhh. I might just pass out.

So I finished Rogue Wave by Jennifer Donnelly. And I thought Rick Riordan wrote cliffhangers!!! That made me die inside a little bit...... I still gave it five stars, though, because it's a surprising enjoyable series.

Right now, I'm going through the pros and cons of starting yet another book. With only a few hours left, I'm not sure I'll be able to finish it, and honestly? I'm exhausted (just now learned how to spell that word...).

How are you guys keeping up? I feel like I've read enough........ Though I might search the Internet for inspiration.

P.S. That, that up there. That picture. To the up direction....thing. That is my head right now. Like, with the colors and pictures and everything.

Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon Update #2 (April, 2015)

Ughhhhhh. It's 1:30am my time right now, and I'm DYING. I slept for the first 3 hours of this readathon, and I'm not stopping now!!

I read a good 2/3 of Rogue Wave by Jennifer Donnelly. Really liking it so far busy the way. Oh, and my head is killing me.

Why am I just now realizing how long 24 hours is??? WE'RE ONLY ON HOUR 18!!!! How do people do these thing so often??? My TBR pile (more like shelf) would go down so much though, because these things really seem to work for me.

Imma go make bagel with cream cheese now. Let's see how long I can hold out....... How are you guys doing??

More book quotes!!!!

Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon Update!! (April, 2015)

Hello!! I just finished Prince Charming by S. Celi and LOVED IT SOOOOO MUCH. I'll probably post a review for it tomorrow or Monday or something.....

Still not entirely sure what to start next, though. I might start Firefight by Brandon Sanderson, since I know it'll be fast-paced. I don't know, figure it out later....

I actually woke up late for this (at around 11am, I was out late!!), but managed to get a large amount of reading in, so I'm still proud of myself. As for right now, I'm gonna make some lasagna.

Happy reading!! How far are you guys???

Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon TBR!! (April, 2015)

So I just decided (about 5 minutes ago) that I would participate in this readathon (It's tomorrow)!! If you want to learn more about it you can go to their website here.

ANYWAY. I'm not a planner, but I thought I would show you guys the books I want to read tomorrow (you know, as I pick them out). Either tomorrow or Sunday I'll also post a wrap-up!!

1. Prince Charming by S. Celi

Super excited to read this! I'm actually already 40ish pages into it, but whatever. It's really good so far!!!

2. Firefight by Brandon Sanderson

I'm hoping this will be a pretty fast paced book (Since Steelheart was), so it'll probably be a good read for a readathon!

3. Rogue Wave by Jennifer Donnelly

The first book in this series was really light and easy to get through, and I'm hoping this will be as well!! Oh!! And this book has puns!!! PUNNNNNNNNSSSS!!!!!!!

Okay, so I'm just going to stop there so I don't farther discourage myself. I'll try to get through Prince Charming at least, since it is pretty small. Let's just see how it goes!!

Are you guys participating in this readathon?? If not, you totally should because it's a great way to get your TBR down (like three books would take my TBR down...)!

Thanks for reading!! What are you guys reading this weekend?

Reading Levels!!

Hilow! I just recently came across the Lexile Reaing Framework thing website (I knew it was a thing, but I didn't know it had a website!). In case you're wondering, it made me kind of angry.

Since probably around 5thish grade, I've been taking reading comprehension tests, and no matter how bad I thought I was when I took the test, I always got some crazy score. I don't think I've ever gotten UNDER 1000L. BTW if you don't know what that is go here!!!

Anyway, I always got a super high reading level, and unfortunately, I could never challenge myself with books because "age appropriate" books were not that high. To this day, I've never reading a book that has a reading level as high as mine.... So my reading level has trouble improving....well except not really.

Books that have a Lexile Level aren't necessarily "graded" well. Or something. I looked on their official website, and on there, The Diary of a Wimpy Kid was rated HIGHER than all the John Green books. And....what?? Excuse me?? You sure...? 'Cause last time I checked John Green uses a lot harder words than what's-his-name that wrote The Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Speaking of words to add to your vocabulary! The words, that they say are hard for a reader of my level to understand are like, "anagram", "theorem", and "grammatical" (On "An Abundance of Kathrines"). Really?? Ugrrhhh. Why can't they come up with YA books that have a reading level over 1000L!!

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that Lexile Levels make me angry, that I can't use them in the first place, and that teachers should stop making me take them!!! (Please?)

Thanks for reading!! What do you think of reading levels?? What about age appropriate books when put together with reading levels?? Do you, or someone you know, use a reading level to determine what books they read?? Let me know in the comments!!!

WRITING SLUMPS!!! (Grrrrrrrr.....)

Hello!! I know I did a post about writing yesterday, but I kinda had to talk about this (actually, I just didn't know what to post)! So yeah, I'm not going to introduce my topics and stuff again, but you can go check out my most recent post here to learn more about it.

Okay, let's get on with it. Writing slumps!!!! The make me angry..... And I've never actually met anyone else who has the same problem. Do you?? (If so, please tell me in the comments!)

If your not a writer, or just have never experienced a writing slump, it's basically the same thing as a reading slump. I go days, even weeks, at a time without writing. So I get absolutely nothing done, and my friends are yelling at me because they want to read more (they're obsessed), and it sucks!!!

Honestly, I don't know what causes my writing slumps, sometimes I just stop writing and can't get back into it. My mom's and author, and I've never seen her get that way, so I'm wondering if I'm the only one!

I don't know. This post was kinda random and unorganized, but I'm just going to post it anyway!!! Hope you had fun reading my rambles.

Writing Hard Topics

Hellos!! (There's more than one of you!) If you don't know, as well as a reader (and other things listed above), I also write. I write in a few different genres, but right now, I'm doing realistic fiction.

Today I will talk about the writing issue of hard topics, such as suicide or religion, etc. which can be hard to write, and even harder to share.

Okay, let's do the basics. When I write realistic fiction, I tend to pick pretty heavy topics and/or themes. Most of them don't have happy endings. Also, I've never actually finsished a novel. Started hundreds, got distracted, started writing something else.

When writing other genres, or anything actually, I tend to write things that would seriously annoying a ton of people. I focus on I lot of topics such as religion, depression, and drugs/acohol. You know, things a 13-year-old should be interested in.....

My question: Do you guys (the writers, I mean) care about how people view your book?? Are you afraid of someone getting mad at you for writing about a topic not everyone agrees on?

If you aren't a writer, or even if you are, do you like heavy topics?? Would you rather read about happy stuff, or the aftermath of a suicide?

My answer: I certainly love reading and writing about both, but I have issues with sharing it with people. Even talking about it.

Thanks for reading!! Please comment down below with your opinion on this subject!

Novellas in General

Hello!! Today I will talk about novellas. If you don't like novellas, please read this. If you do, I honestly don't care.

Okay, so before I begin, I'd like to state this: NOVELLAS ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE. Personally, I sometimes like novellas, or at least I like the idea of them.

There are two purposes of novellas:

1. So the author/publisher can make a bit of money before the next book in a series comes out.
2. So anticipating readers don't have to wait too long to get back into a series.

I HATE it when people review novellas and they say it's "too short", and I'm like, um, yeah, duh.... It's called a novella!! Why do people expect a full length novel when they buy these things?!?!?

And then they complain about the price, $1.99 on Kindle??? That's rediculous!!! Um NOOO. The full length novels in that series is about 12 bucks, and it's about 400 pages. This is two and 50ish pages, HOW IS THAT A SCAM TO YOU PEOPLE???

Now, let me get this straight: you do not have to read the novellas in a series. It is, most of the time, not necessary to understand the story (unless you're Rick Riordan).

The point of this is to tell the people who don't like novellas, you don't have to read them. And anyway, YOU EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM THEM. From a readers point of view, the only reason you would want to read a novella would be to get back into the world of the story. Some people can't wait, if you can, that's great, but you don't have to give a one-star review to EVERY NOVELLA EVER.

You should also note that novellas are NOT usually an authors best work. It's pretty much for money, and the authors who might care about their fans......

Thanks for reading!!! I'm surprised you got through that!! (Seriously, wow.) Now if you please, stop judging novellas in a way they are not meant to be judged. That would be nice. You are allowed to not like them, but if you don't, don't read them and give them bad reviews.....

Novellas have feelings too!! :'(

You better be crying for them (because if they did, they would get water damage)!!!

Series I Bought, But Don't Want To Read/Finish

Heya!! I thought I'd get back into more bookish things, and since I haven't complained in a while, I thought I would in this post.

There are a lot of series on my shelves. Some of them I bought, then read the first book (or the first paragraph), and decided I didn't really want to read them. This doesn't necessarily mean they're bad books, but they were just not my cup of tea. At all.

The Matched Trilogy by Ally Condie

I loved the first book in this trilogy, Ally Condie's writing is AMAZING. I love it. The problem was that the "love interest" was one of the most dull and uninteresting character I've ever read about. Then the second book was half in his POV, and I was just, like, nope, nope, nope.

The Maze Runner Trilogy by James Dashner

I know it says I'm still currently reading this book, but I've pretty much giving up. It may get more interesting later in the book, but the beginning is SO SLOW. The one time I'm just going to watch the movie.....

The Teardrop Trilogy by Lauren Kate

I read MAYBE 20 pages of this, and was so bored I just gave up. Honestly, I wanted to be one of those rare people who like Lauren Kate (she also wrote Fallen).......

The Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu

Okay, so a ton of people are going to get on me about this now. I read Legend and Prodigy, but June was just so obnoxious. I can't stand her!!! She's supposed to be super duper smart and stuff, but the way that part of her is played up (I don't need to know the exact demensions of every room), is just so annoying. One character ruined an entire series.....

This one is a sorta kinda one:

Th Lunar Chronicles by Marrisa Meyer

PLEASE DONT YELL AT ME!!! I might actually end up finishing this one, but if I do, it probably won't be soon. I liked Cinder, but was iffy on the charcters, hated the predictability, and I'm not exactly a huge sci-fi fan. I've been told it gets better, but I'm just...uggmmmmhhhh. Possibly....

That's it!! Go ahead, tell me how I "need to read this series because it's SO GOOD!!!". I probably won't listen, unless you actually make some good points (good luck). Thanks for reading, adiĆ³s, hasta la vista, hasta luego, hasta, hasta, you get the point. Bye.

Maybe I should get rid of some of these......

Top Ten Tuesday: Characters I'd Like To Check In With

Hello!! I've never done this before, but I'd thought id give it a try since a lot of people do it.

Oh, oh!! Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish :)

Without farther ado (or something else, I have no idea anymore), my top ten characters I'd like to check in with!!

1. Hazel from TFioS

This should be one everyone's list. What happens after....the thing.....? DOES ISSAC EVER FIND A NON-SUCKY GIRLFRIEND????? Why must John Green write only standalones?!?!?

2. Everybody from Percy Jackson

If there's not at least a short story, I might die. How does that not count as a cliffhanger?????

3. Ellie and Graham from This is What Happy Looks Like

I don't know why I'm including this, because it has a sequel... But I haven't read it. Mostly because the paperback version doesn't match the hardcover or the previous book.

4. Cadence from We Were Liars

As much as I want to know what happens to Cadence after huge plot twist, I don't think I could stand another book. I read this weeks ago and I'm still freaking out.

5. Cole and Isabel from Sinner

No, not any of the other books (aka Shiver Trilogy). Just Sinner!!! Though I feel like I'm the only one who made it that far (I can't believe I managed it). If you have read it, you understand my issues.

6. Everybody from the Shatter Me Trilogy

Seriously!! Ummm. The world has kinda just blown up (not actually) and government is no longer alive. We solve this problem how....?

7. Every Day by David Levithan

WHY????????? There is soon to be a "sequel", but it's just the same book in a different POV (I though you were better than that, David Levithan). And I just..... Ugh.

8. Peoples from The Kane Chronicles

Rick Riordan, ily. But seriously. You were making me so excited, and then it just, ended. Short stories don't count I want a novel!!!!!

 9. The names of people I don't remember from More Than This

The one YA book that needs a sequel, and was a good enough book to make it worthy of a sequel, doesn't have a sequel.... WHAT WAS THAT ENDING?!?!?!?

10. The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson

The ending would have been fine if Brandon Sanderson published books more often.

Okay!! Ten..... That took more effort than I was expecting. Basically, these are just books with cliffhangers that don't have sequel (well, most of them don't).

Thanks for reading!! I might continue with this meme, maybe, idk. Depends if this post does well or not...... Okay, sorry, bye!!!

Easter Monday is a Thing

Hi. I have NO IDEA what I plan to do with this post... Try not to suffer too much :)

For those of you who don't know, Easter Monday is not really a thing in the US, but for the first time ever, I have Easter Monday off!!!

It's not actually for Easter Monday (just a teacher in service day I'm afraid :'( ). I think they just wanted to stick an in service day right after a break. Like having one on Valentine's day when it's on Friday. I don't know.

Anyway, I was supposed to read around 200 pages of a book of my choice over break. That did not happen!!! Instead, I went to Canada. (Go Canada!) So yeah, I'm behind.

I don't know what this post is.

Basically, instead of reading, I was blogging, buying even more books, and washing my mom's Jeep. So don't expect any book reviews (but if you want me to review a book I haven't, but have read feel free to check out my Goodreads).

Um. Yeah. Thanks for reading (though I don't know why you read this entire post)!!! Do you celebrate Easter Monday and/or get that day off where you live?? Where is Easter Monday a holiday...? Whatever..... What did you guys get for Easter? Do you celebrate Easter.......? I only celebrate it because my family does so yeah idk.

How did you make it to the end of this??

Happy Easter Monday, I guess.

BTW, apparently I'm the kind of person that plugs things in without turning on their power strip thingy. Genius!!!

Required Reading???

Heya!! So as I sit here supposed to be doing required reading for my English class, I thought I would ask you guys what you think of required reading.

Personally, I think it's pretty stupid. Teachers are forcing kids to read, and it makes those kids hate reading. Seriously, I've asked these non-bibliophiles, and they agree. I can actually relate to this, though.

When I'm reading a book for school, I would NEVER enjoy it as much as I would if I were reading it for fun. Mostly, I think it's because of projects and book reports. Having students do tons of projects and "analyzing" the story doesn't make reading seem fun.

Instead, why can't teachers just encourage reading?!?!?

Back to book reports. They are harder to do when you don't like a book. In my experience, it's hard to write an essay about charcters development when, yes there was character development, but it sucked!! This book, IS NOT GOOD AND I WILL NOT WRITE AN ESSAY ABOUT HOW GREAT THIS AUTHOR IS. HE IS NOT!!!!!!!!!! But that's just my opinion.

In conclusion, I think reading should be encouraged, but not forced. Also, English teachers, not every book you think is fantastic is good to anybody else, and do not tell me to reread it because I "didn't get the point of the book". I got the point, I just don't think the characters were all that developed at any point in the story.

Sorry for ranting. Posting this unedited.

ACTUAL IN CONCLUSION, do not force reading, do not tell me to do essays on horrible books, and do not think that every book you like is good. Encourage reading!!! Don't make your students hate reading!!! That will only make it worse.....

Opinions on this subject?? Any English teachers that want to defend themselves? Go ahead, really.

Anyway, thanks for reading!! Bye!!

Are They Worth It????

Hello!!! I thought today I would talk about polls (because I just updated my monthly poll).

Are these even worth it?? I actually spend I fair amount of time trying to come up with ideas for polls, and I don't really want to do that if you guys aren't interested. Personally, I LOVE polls. Especially ones that have to do with books.

Am I alone...?

Usually, I only get 4-7 total votes on these polls, and I'm starting to wonder if you guys actually like them. Also, if you have any ideas for future polls, that would be fantabulous.

So, anyway, are they really worth it? I'd really rather not waste my time doing something nobody cares about. Oh, and is monthly often enough? Or too often? Should I do weekly, every other month, or something else? I'd really love your opinion on this, so please comment down below!

Thanks for reading!! If you would, please vote on the new poll in the upper right hand corner of your screen. Thanks!! See ya!

Fantastical Under-Hyped Books

Hello!!! This post is pretty similar to a few days ago's post, but now I'm gonna talk about books again. These are books that I LOVE that I feel like more people should pick up. I'm trying to do a lot of different genres so I can appeal to everybody.... Okay, let's go!

Steelheart (The Reckoners #1) by Brandon Sanderson

Honestly, any Brandon Sanderson book is amazing. Lots of people have been talking about the Mistborn Trilogy, but not too many have talked about Steelheart. It's amazing!!

Deep Blue (Waterfire Saga #1) by Jennifer Donnelly

On the younger side of YA, but I still loved this book. Plus, mermaid mythology and hilarious puns!!!!

Goodreads Link

Poison by Bridget Zinn

I got this book because it was buy one get one free, and I didn't expect to like it. Though the cover is horrible, and even the description doesn't make me want to read it, I still really loved it.

Goodreads Link

This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith

This book... Guys. Seriously. It's got to be the most believable romance EVER. I don't even like romance!!

Goodreads Link

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

Delirium might even be considered under-hyped, but nobody seems to ever talk about Before I Fall. This is coming from a teenager by the way, Lauren Oliver's teen voice is spot on.

Goodreads Link

Okay, five is the only round number in sight. I hope this was enough variation for you!! Maybe you could pick up some of these books! I could start doing this as a monthly thing, but it's much easier to listen to music than it is to read books.... Opinions???

Thanks for reading!!! Check out the links above!!! Now.
